The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
