Still, the absence of living witnesses, photography and newsreels compelled the production to rely extensively on historical documents, combining personal accounts of multiple revolutionary participants. This allowed them to present viewers not only to the “bold-faced names” of that era but also to “dozens of others who are seminal to the story”, numerous individuals remain visually unknown.

The filmmaker also explored his individual interest for geography and cartography. “I have great affection for cartography,” he notes, “with greater cartographic content in this project compared to previous works I’ve done combined.”

International Impact
