Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The motive of the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the site managing the implementation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, according to reports.
"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement stated.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.
Important clues, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have have information to contact them.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to find their location," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, a close relative, said the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the community to not sharing graphic images from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.
Beyond his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, providing VIP protection services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in building administration and was involved in tenant removals.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an flood of condolences from his audience, the authorities and political parties.
A senior figure commented he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
"He spoke his truth fearlessly and impartially. He even spoke up against me and my policies as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A political leader said the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director said that "DJ Warras was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will be remembered".
