LeBron James's Legendary Point-Scoring Streak Ends, However Los Angeles Secure Triumph Against Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his historic streak of scoring in double figures was in danger. In that crucial moment, though, it was not his focus.

The right decision involved passing the basketball – and he executed. Consequently, the unprecedented record was over.

James's unprecedented run of over 1,200 straight NBA regular season outings scoring at least ten was snapped this past Thursday, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader had only eight total points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors. He provided the clutch helper, feeding teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a three-point shot as time expired.

“None,” James stated in response regarding the conclusion of his run. “The team got the victory.”

An Unselfish Choice Seals Victory

James could have sought to clinch the game – while also extending his record – in the closing seconds, yet he opted to dish the ball to Hachimura in the left corner. Rui connected, prompting James raised his arms immediately.

You have to play basketball the right way. Always make the correct play,” James remarked. That is how I operate. It's how I was instructed to play. I've played that way for two decades.”

He is acutely aware exactly how many points he's scored at all times,” commented the team's head coach the coach. He made the play just as he has so many times.”

The Record's End Game

He returned to the game for the final time with 5:23 remaining, the win along with the historic run on the line. At that stage, he had only six points on 3-of-15 shooting then.

He scored at 1:46 left to level the contest but then missed a 14-footer at 1:01 left that might have pushed him to double digits.

He avoided taking one more attempt – even though he had a chance. A teammate passed him the ball with a few seconds left, however, James decided to dish it off instead.

The spirits of the game, if you do it the proper way, they often reward you,” Redick added.

The History of a Staggering Record

The record commenced back in January 2007. It stood as the most extended double-digit streak in NBA history: Michael Jordan had 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem recorded 787, and The Mailman recorded at 575.

“He’s such a team-oriented player,” remarked teammate Jake LaRavia.

He simply plays the sport. He could have shot but due to who he is on the court and his character as an individual, he executed the team play, passed it to Rui and we won the game.”

Scoring in double figures had typically been a formality early in the start of fourth quarters. Over the course of the record, he had attained ten points by the beginning of the final quarter over twelve hundred times prior to Thursday.

Yet two such games below ten points through three quarters had happened in the last week: He had nine points entering the final quarter against Dallas last week, followed by six going into the fourth against Phoenix earlier in the week.

LeBron was able to extend the streak in the Phoenix game. The very next outing, it finished – yet he was celebrating anyway.

I only ever make the right play. That comes naturally, regardless of outcome,” James said. If you make the unselfish play, the sports deities are always returning the favor.”
