Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician now faces charges for performing sexual assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations follow what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

List of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
