Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are urging that a man who breached a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, winning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
